Book 2: The Void Between - Launch Day
Book 2 of the Ulysses Universe trilogy is live. Circe's island. The Sirens. The descent to the underworld. Calypso's ten-year time-jump. The middle of the journey. Available now on Amazon.

Book 2 is live
The Void Between launched on Amazon today. Fifteen days after Book 1. Seventeen days before Book 3.
This is the middle of the trilogy. The book that takes the Odyssey from the structural establishment of Book 1 (Olympus escape, the curse, Polyphemus) through the body of the journey (Circe, the Sirens, the underworld, Scylla and Charybdis, Calypso) and sets up the homecoming in Book 3.
It is, in some ways, the trilogy's most ambitious single book. The middle of any trilogy is structurally the hardest. The work of Book 2 is to deepen, complicate, and pay off what Book 1 set up, while opening the questions Book 3 will resolve. The Void Between does this in active sequences and in long emotional arcs that have been waiting since Book 1.
What happens in The Void Between
A brief tour, with care to avoid major spoilers.
Aeaea. The Odyssey reaches Circe's station in Year 11. The encounter is the trilogy's most morally complicated single set piece. Circe is more honest than most of the Pantheon. She is also dangerous in ways that require Ulysses to make a year-long deal he does not want to make. We have written about Aeaea separately in Aeaea: Circe's Bioluminescent Domain.
The Sirens. A signal that rewrites memory rather than voices that lure ships onto rocks. Marcus-Reyes is the casualty. The encounter is short. The damage is durable. See The Sirens: A Signal That Rewrites Memory.
The underworld descent. Ulysses speaks with the data residue of the dead, including Tiresias, who gives him the prophecy that structures the rest of the journey. The descent is the trilogy's clearest sustained meditation on consciousness, mortality, and what persists. See The Underworld: Data of the Dead.
Scylla and Charybdis. Six crew die. Ulysses chooses. The math is unforgiving. See Scylla and Charybdis: The Impossible Choice in Space.
Calypso's Island. A time-distorted liminal space. Ten years pass for the universe. The crew experiences weeks. This is the bridge between Books 2 and 3 and the trilogy's most extreme treatment of time as antagonist. See Calypso's Island: Where Time Stops.
Penelope on Ithaca. Running in counterpoint to the journey, Penelope's chapters in Book 2 deepen the political resistance arc. The Suitors consolidate. Penelope's covert intelligence operation begins in earnest. The embroidery comms relay is operational. See Embroidery as Resistance: Penelope's Silver Robes.
What carries over from Book 1
Book 2 is not standalone. It assumes Book 1's foundation: the Olympus escape, Zeus's curse, the 108 suspension pods, the salvage of the Eurydice in Year 1, the Polyphemus encounter in Year 10. Echo carries the partial decode of the Architect archive from the Eurydice salvage, and her role in Book 2 builds on that inheritance.
Telemachus, seventeen at the start of Book 2's main action, ages partially during the Calypso time-jump. He is eighteen when Calypso's Island begins. He is twenty-eight when his father comes back to the Odyssey. The growth happens in the gap.
If you have not read Book 1, start there. Book 1: The Blinding is available now.
What sets up Book 3
Book 2 ends with the Odyssey clearing Calypso's Island and beginning the approach to Ithaca. Telemachus is now an adult. Penelope's resistance has been running for sixteen years. The Suitors are at their most consolidated and most dangerous. Echo is closer to fully decoding the Architect archive than she has been at any prior point.
Book 3 (The Return) launches on 1 June 2026. The trilogy completes seventeen days from now.
